Shanklin Chine
3 Chine Hill, Shanklin, Isle of Wight, PO37 6BW - 01983 866432
Shanklin Chine celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2017 and is the Island’s oldest tourist attraction — the stunning tree-lined gorge has been a magnet for millions of visitors since opening in 1817. In 2018, it became a Registered Charity (1173736) to preserve it for future generations. Wander amid the natural tranquillity until dusk, and then enjoy the hundreds of lights illuminating the narrow paths, streams and waterfalls during the summer. Illuminations take place from May through to November and events, including “Music in the Chine” take place every Tuesday and Thursday evening in July and August. There are also regular art and photographic exhibitions, tea gardens, gift shop, nature and heritage displays and a Second World War exhibition. Enjoy a meal at the Fisherman’s Cottage Pub — its very own historical pub on the beach. Daily, 8 April-3 Nov. Please visit website for opening times, prices and special events.
